These migrants initially settled in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. As the population swelled, migration to North Carolina occurred. He was born in Henry County Tennessee on March 26, 1841 and died in Bedford, Iowa on July 20, 1908. He married Mary Smith on October 30th., 1869. I have an original newspaper obituary for him and it doesn't mention any children. His wife, one brother and 2 sisers were his only listed survivors. He was buried beside an infant sister in the Shearer cemetery.

So you want a little more data? Okay, here goes -- We were married in Polk, Nebraska, at my parents' home. We had intended to be married in my dad's church there but when I saw the church I decided not to -- there were huge waterstains on the walls and ceiling; a little potbelly stove in the center of the aisle -- it was just not appealing. So we decorated my parents' living room with greenery and white ribbons and candles. My old pump organ was still in their living room and it made a neat centerpiece for decorations, as well as a background for the ceremony. My dad married us of course. So, yes, Christmas night at 8 p.m. we closed out 67 years. Alvon says we'll try for 67 more but I don't think so! His birthday is February 6 and he will be 87 in 2009. He still gets a lot done for his age but we are both slowing down considerably. Thanks for your interest in us, and if there's anything else you want to know just ask! Grace

Hopkins, Mo. Ardith Claire (Lister) Fine, 89 of Hopkins since 1941, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005. During the last six weeks of her life, Ardith resided at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility, Jefferson City, MO., so she could be near her son, Dwight Fine and his family.
Ardith was born April 12, 1916, in Page County, Iowa. She spent her childhood years in the Clarinda, Iowa; and Braddyville, Iowa, areas. She was raised by her grandparents, David A. and Arrie (Meads) Lister.
During her working career, Ardith was the bookkeeper for Bedford Motor Co., Bedford, Iowa. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hopkins and Order of the Eastern Star in Hopkins.
Ardith was preceded in death by her grandparents; her husband, Orris L. Fine; her mother, Clarice Damewood; stepfather, L.N. Damewood; and son, Kenneth Leon Fine.
Ardith is survived ty her son, Dwight, and his wife, Eva; Kenneth's wife, Helen; two brothers, L.N. Damewood Jr; and Donald L. Damewood; two grandchildren and two Great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the First Baptist Church in Hopkins. Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Mrs. Fine's name.

Charlotte Dighton
Charlotte Elaine Peterson Dighton, 62, of Keokuk, formerly of Carthage, Ill., died at 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at her daughter's home in Keokuk.
Born Dec. 16, 1943, in Gladstone Township, Ill., she was the daughter of Raymond and Elsie Polson Peterson.
Mrs. Dighton worked 23 years in production at Methode in Carthage. She lived in Carthage for many years before moving to her daughter's home three years ago. She helped raise her grandchildren. She was a member of Foursquare Church in Keokuk. She enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include two daughters, Deanna Sullivan of Keokuk and Robin Peterson of Burlington; two sons, Jerry Akers and Lee Seiser, both of Carthage; her mother, Elsie Newlan of Lomax, Ill; her friend, Dane Wiele of Lomax; 16 grandchildren, four great–grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Reynolds of Paducah, Ky; and one brother, Algie Peterson of Gladstone, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her father, her stepfather and her grandparents.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Ill., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Dighton will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home with Algie Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Carman Cemetery, Carman, Ill.

Lynn "L.D." Olson, 66, of Oquawka, Ill., died at 3:40 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.
Born Sept. 2, 1942, in Oquawka, he was the son of Gerald "Tag" and Betty Logan Olson. On March 13, 1965, he married Pat Shinberger in Oquawka.
Mr. Olson was a boiler room engineer. He graduated from G and O High School.
He was a charter member of the Monmouth Eagles Club and a 43-year member of the Oquawka Lodge No. 123 Masons. He enjoyed commercial fishing the Mississippi River and was a Chicago Bears fan and basketball fan.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Tina Lox of Oquawka; one son, Gerald "Tag" Olson of Cape Girardeau, Mo; two granddaughters; two sisters, Pat M. Olson-McGee of Kirkland, Ill., and Pamela Olson of Oquawka; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no visitation or services. Mr. Olson's body has been donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy for cancer research.

I have done a little bit of research on your gg grandfather, Ferdinand Morse, and have found that he was born July 1855 in Germany, according to the 1900 Census of Gladstone, Henderson Couiunty, IL. Also according to the census, he and his wife, Anna emigrated in 1882 and Ferdinand was a naturalized citizen. If you would like additional info from the census on this family, please let me know.
Right next door to Ferdinand and his family in 1900 was Frederick Gaede, who looks like he married Ferdinand's sister, Augusta. Living in the house with Frederick and Augusta was one Frederick Morse, listed as father-in-law. His birthdate was given as May 1821, emigration as 1884 and he was also naturalized. He was a widow, so I can't give you a wife's name. It is possible he emigrated after the death of his wife.
As for how to go about researching this family, start with what you know and work backward. Birth certificates and death certificates as well as any church records you can find will help.
I do not know what to tell you about trying to research overseas.As for researching here in the US, every state is different. For example, Illinois has a Statewide Death Index online from which you can order a copy of the person's death certificate that might give you Ferdinand's parents' names. This will confirm or "debunk" my theory that Ferdinand's father was Frederick and might give you his mother's maiden name. (The url for this site is www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/idphdeathsrch.html <http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/idphdeathsrch.html>. )Here in New York, we have to write or go to the municipality where the death occurred.
In the Morse Society, we generally go no further back than the person who immigrated to this country.

Som du redan vet föddes Stig den 15:e november 1931. Han gick 6 år i Ölmstads folkskola, arbetade sedan i jordbruk och industri några år. Trots att man knappast kan tro det, om hans stillsamma person, var han på sjön som mässpojke ock jungman en kort period. Han var till och med i Amerika. Han studerade senare vid folkhögskolan i Värnamo och utbildade sig därefter till mentalsjukvårdare. Som sådan tjänstgjorde han vid Ryhovs mentalsjukhus i Jönköping till sin pensionering.
Stig var en skicklig orienterare och deltog i många tävlingar. Han var en något tillbakadragen person, mycket intelligent och sympatisk och vi saknar honom väldigt mycket. Our brother Stig passed away suddenly on May 24th from an a heart attack. Funeral services were held in East chapel in Jönköping on June 16th and we placed his ashes in the family gravesite at Skärstads church-yard on July 5th.
As you already know Stig was born November 15, 1931. He went 6 years to Ölmstads elementary school, then worked in agriculture and industry some years. Despite that one scarcely would believe, about his gentle person, he went to sea as a messboy and ordinary seaman for a brief period. He was back and forth to America. He studied later at adult high school in Värnamo and educated himself thereafter as a mental hospital orderly. In this capacity he served at Ryhovs mental hospital in Jönköping until his retirement.
Stig was a skillful orienteer and participated in many competitions. He was a somewhat withdrawn person, very intelligent and nice and we miss him ever so much.

We know that Eskil was born (no Oskar in his birth name) in Forserum parish in Sweden on December 13, 1863, and that his mother died 11 days later. In 1864 he and his widowed father moved from Forserum parish to Ölmstad parish; unfortunately, Ölmstad records for moving to or out of that parish stop at 1860 so we cannot determine exactly when they left Sweden for the U.S. In some census data Eskil shows it to be 1866.
According to Geneseo church records, Oskar Eskil was baptized at the Swedish Lutheran church in Geneseo in 1879 when he was 15. In the 1880 federal census, 16 year old Swedish-born Oscar Erickson is working on the farm of John Esbeck in Geneseo, Illinois.
The Geneseo church records show that Eskil and Ingrid Sophia Johnson (two years his junior) married on both 12 Jan 1893 and 11 Nov 1892. He outlived her by almost 43 years. We cannot find him in the 1900 or 1910 census (she died in 1903).
In 1920 Eskil O. Erickson lived in Geneseo township with his two surviving children (Adolph had died in WWI in 1918) Paul 23 and Caroline 20. Paul and he farmed. He had immigrated in 1865 and naturalized in 1875; he was now 56 and a widower. Farming nearby are his some of his wife's Johnson siblings and cousins: Arthur R, Charles O, Arvid E. and Henry Johnson and Floyd Sand.
In 1930 O.E. Erickson continues to live in Geneseo township on the farm the 66 year old owns; he farms with his 33 year old son Paul while his 30 year old daughter, Caroline H is the housekeeper. He immigrated in 1867 it states. C.O., Arthur and Harry F. Johnson are neighbors.
Oskar married Ingrid Sophia JOHNSON daughter of Lars (Jönsson) JOHNSON and Carolina NILSDOTTER on 12 Jan 1893 in First Lutheran, Geneseo, Illinois. Ingrid was born on 26 Dec 1861 in Geneseo, Illinois. She died on 15 Apr 1903 in Geneseo, Henry County, Illinois. She was buried in Mizpah Cemetery, Geneseo, Illinois.

from Multiple sclerosis, lived all his life in Tolarp and died 17 May
1941. Our mother Karin always said that he had a lot of patience and was
very kind to her and her sisters.
#Ester Wilhelmina was born 13 January 1886. She was married to Oskar
David Efraim Lindblad (24 March 1911). Lived in Tolarp. She died 4 June
1966.
Their children, all born in Tolarp::
*Astrid Sofia was born 8 May 1911, married to Olof Blomqvist. Died 11
January 1991. Lived in Jönköping.
*Anna Elvirawas born 11 June 1915, married to Tore ?. She died 9

from Multiple sclerosis, lived all his life in Tolarp and died 17 May
1941. Our mother Karin always said that he had a lot of patience and was
very kind to her and her sisters.
#Ester Wilhelmina was born 13 January 1886. She was married to Oskar
David Efraim Lindblad (24 March 1911). Lived in Tolarp. She died 4 June
1966.
Their children, all born in Tolarp::
*Astrid Sofia was born 8 May 1911, married to Olof Blomqvist. Died 11
January 1991. Lived in Jönköping.
*Anna Elvirawas born 11 June 1915, married to Tore ?. She died 9
November 1946.
* Kerstin Adelewas born 14 mars 1919, married to Thure Jägenstedt and
died 2 December 2006.
*Magnhild Ingrid Mariawas born 18 November 1921, married to Otto
Danielsson. She still lives in Huskvarna.
*Karin Gertrud Linnea(our mother) was born 1 January 1924, married to
Gunnar Gärdebrand and died 25 July 2007. Lived in Skärstad.
#Ida Mariawas born 31 October 1888. Unmarried. Died 15 april 1919 of
"Spanish flue". Lived in Tolarp.
#Carl Gustaf Petrus was born 25 December 1891. Married to Adina. He died
4 November 1983. He lived for many years in Stockholm.
#Nils Axel was born 12 November 1894. Married to Elvira. He died 26 June
1966. He lived in Stockholm too.
Johan Magnus (John Morris) and Carl August had a sister who also went to
USA \endash Johanna Sofia (born 7 July 1855)
